He has bachelor of science degrees in physics and electrical engineering, a master's degree in industrial engineering, and has completed graduate work toward a Ph.D. in operations research. He is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, having completed the Owner President Management program in 2000.

Ed holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
